Connect, Create, Communicate
Collaborative design: technology constraints and developer buy-in
An Agile scrum team that had been focused primarily on foundation work started working on porting one screen as part of a project with no scope for extra re-working. The current screen did not communicate the functionality provided. The challenge was to create a usable UI without changing any of the tightly coupled backend.
I worked with QA to quickly identify the key purpose of the UI. Then I created a layout structure to clearly communicate the available functionality, and lead design session with the scrum team to fill in the details. When unforeseen implementation challenges arose, I changed the structure to facilitate fast implementation without losing the integrity of the new design.
The result was a usable, quickly implementable UI update, and team buy-in.
